CODOS UPDATE NOVEMBER 17, 2022: SNOW SCHOOL FOR WATER PROFESSIONALS SET FOR FEBRUARY 8-10, 2023

Greetings from Silverton,

Snow School for Water Professionals:  We are really excited to offer Snow School for Water Professionals this winter season after a three year pause due to COVID.  This year the class will be held February 8 - 10, 2023.  The combination classroom and field course will begin on Wednesday morning at our office in Silverton and end on Friday afternoon (2.5 days).  The class is perfect for anyone wanting to learn more about the role of snow and our mountain environments as it pertains to water resources, designed to enhance understanding of snowpack processes, snow monitoring and data. Click here to download flyer, please circulate in your workplace and please do not hesitate to contact me with questions. You can pay with credit card at snowstudies.org.

Colorado Gives Day: Now it is that time of year when we ask you to support our small non-profit either through donating online, or preferably we invite you to join us for Colorado Gives Day.  December 6, 2022 is Colorado Gives Day and your opportunity to make your gift go farther. The Community First Foundation offers incentive funds and bonus drawings for non-profits that receive donations through Colorado Gives Day website. Every gift qualifies CSAS for a higher percentage of the incentive funds  Why wait, you can schedule a donation now at www.coloradogives.org.

Your contribution will:

  • Keep the 20-year data collection effort flowing at our energy balance and climate station network in Senator Beck Study Basin.

  • Support dust-on-snow observations and reporting across Colorado.

  • Support state-of-the-science research and modeling efforts.

Winter Around the Corner: It is wonderful to see winter starting to show itself after another long and hot summer. Western Colorado has enjoyed a good amount of precipitation so far this Autumn with persistent snow cover beginning to take hold in the mountains. Since the start of the water year our precipitation gauge at Swamp Angel in Senator Beck Study Basin started seeing action October 2 with 1.3". The next boost of moisture was over a few days centered around October 23 with 1.7” of water. On November 3rd we saw another 1.5”.

Take Care,

Jeff Derry
